Hybrid propulsion systems are increasingly introduced to the market in order to meet new regulations on CO2 emissions.
In all-electric mode, the thermal engine is switched off and the sloshing noise is not masked anymore by the engine background noise. Therefore this technology comes with higher requirement regarding the vibro-accoustic signature of fuel tanks.
Vibro-acoustic simulation chains allow to model the acoustic signature of the fuel tank. It relies on a fine characterisation of the excitation linked to the sloshing event, which is simulated with CFD.
In order to ensure consistent quality and accuracy of the CFD simulation tools used and an objective basis for their evaluation, validation cases should be identified and run automatically at every update/upgrade of the simulation chain.
Conduct a literature review of internal documents and scientific articles featuring detailed description of geometry, experimental conditions and data relevant to CFD validation.
Identification of cases covering the physical phenomena of interest for fuel tank sloshing:
Description of the Methodology that will be applied to ensure accuracy and robustness.
Generation of high quality geometry and meshes for validation purpose
Computation and Post-processing of CFD solutions with at least two of the following software: Star-CCM+, XFlow, Fraunhofer MeshFree.
Background & Skills
(Ongoing) Master in Mechanical Engineering with specialisation in Computational Fluid Dynamics.
Fluent in English
High level of initiative, good communication skills
Programming skills (C/C++ and Python ideally)
Has already carried independently at least one significant CFD project beyond the mandatory classroom projects.
