Specific Job Duties:


  • Set-up and develop Plastic Omnium’s painting process window for 2K prime, waterborne base coats, and 2K clear coats.
  • Support process and maintenance activities consistent with departmental expectations and goals.
  • Work with equipment suppliers to accurately collect application and performance data on new technology tested in the painting process.
  • Operate paint process and application equipment in accordance with established control plans in order to satisfy the customer quality standards and delivery schedule.
  • Participate in the development of robotic path motions and operating parameters for the introduction of new products and the continuous improvement of existing programs to optimize transfer efficiency and improve cycle times within the guidelines of the control plans and customer quality standards.
  • Actively pursue without direction the reduction of all defects associated with Paint line goals
  • Track, record and prepare management reports detailing process capability and trend analyses of key parameters as directed by the Paint Technical Manager.

    •     Robotic path work cycle times
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions utilizing error proofing techniques to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to the product, process and/or quality system through designated channels.
  • Establish, coordinate and evaluate the necessary training and “hands-on” troubleshooting requirements of the robot technicians including all electrical, mechanical and pneumatic functions of the Durr’s, control cabinets, spray guns and PLC interconnections.
  • Direct all changes and modifications to the paint control plan and process FMEA resulting from continuous improvement activities as well as internal or external customer requirements in accordance with ISO-TS16949 protocol.
  • Verify and calibrate paint process and application equipment as directed in the total productive maintenance plan to ensure the accuracy and repeatability of the painting process.
  • Track, record and prepare management reports detailing process capability and trend analyses of key parameters as directed by the Paint Technical Manager.
  • Coordinate with the Paint Technical Manager and other paint line personnel in the completion of process related projects and improvements as directed by the Paint Technical Manager.
  • Communicate and cooperate with paint suppliers on usage optimization, formulation compatibility, paint performance and quality issues.
  • Communicate and cooperate with cleaning suppliers to test new processes and products to ensure optimization of system performance.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement teams as assigned by the Paint Technical Manager.
  • Safety Minded
  • Previous automotive Class A finishing and robotic experience.
  • Experience with industrial control, computer technology and programming is an asset.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required; work related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree. 
  • Must be computer literate on the Windows platform.
  • Must pass Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Point Hue Test Annually
