The Buyer/Lead Buyer is responsible for leading the market analysis of his/her range of products or services, and formulating purchasing strategies. He/she
sources suppliers to meet internal and external customer targets (cost, quality, delivery, warranty, technology, timing) and manages and improves the supply base through increased leverage, new suppliers, or other means. The Buyer/Lead Buyer heads negotiations with suppliers, monitors contract compliance, and implements tasks for continuous improvement.
The Purchasing Manager oversees a group of buyers and their activities. He/she sets objectives (financial and nonfinancial) and proposes strategies for the group, and supports individual buyers in major negotiations. The Purchasing Manager controls the delivery of action plans at the buyer level and provides progress reports to the Director of Purchasing.
