HSE Intern 

Plastic Omnium Fairfax is looking for a local intern (length: On-Going) to support our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in regards to Health, Safety and Environment programs. The ideal candidate has a genuine interest in how occupational health, safety, and environmental programs are managed in a manufacturing setting to protect interested parties and the environment.  The HSE Intern will be asked to: 

  • Nurture the HSE culture founded on adherence to all applicable HSE and other corporate policies, procedures and guidelines 

  • Work with HR/HSE Manager and the site team site team on tasks such as implementing, reviewing and updating HSE documentation (i.e. job safety analysis, energy control procedures, etc.) 

  • Enhance employee ownership by working with individuals on observations and analyzing observation data 

  • Support HSE program audits and inspections 

  • Facilitate HSE training 

  • Implement lessons learned from sister sites, including working with the Technical Manager to ensure machine conformity 

  • Perform other duties as required to meet plant needs 

 

Education, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Must currently be pursuing a Bachelor or advanced degree program in an applicable discipline (Major in Occupational Health, Safety & Environment, Engineering or another closely related field of study) 

  • Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 

  • Must have a passion for Occupational HSE 

  • Must be legally able to work in the U.S. without requirement of any type of visa sponsorship or transfer both now and in the future

  • Must have an interest in the manufacturing industry 

  • Strong communication skills 

  • Detail-oriented with an analytical mindset 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively 

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others without using authority 

  • Ability to operate computer applications such as the Microsoft Suite
