The Automation Engineer designs, installs, programs, debugs, and troubleshoots automated manufacturing equipment. This role drives continuous improvement within the facility by leading projects and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
Responsibilities & Activities
Responsibility 1: Implement new automation systems in the FFX facility
Work directly with corporate automation team to implement new automation systems
Program PLC, HMI, vision, robotic and other automated systems
Ensure controls for all new equipment meet company and legal standards
Ensure all data collection systems are in place and functioning properly
Responsibility 2: Ensure all current automated systems are aligned with Plastic Omnium CES standards
Implement latest best practices
Recommend necessary improvements
Responsibility 3: Lead continuous improvement activities
Identify improvement opportunities through automation or controls optimization
Investigate and provide detailed reporting of cost saving opportunities
Implement approved changes through trial to completion
Analyze and summarize data to communicate outcomes
Responsibility 4: Assist maintenance personnel in complex troubleshooting
Provide high level troubleshooting assistance
Electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematic reading
Make equipment adjustments when necessary
Responsibility 5: Champion the HSE and Quality culture in the facility
Ability to become a LOTO champion (expert knowledge of energy sources)
Leader in the use of Stop 5 and other Plastic Omium HSE initiatives
Report HSE events and make improvement suggestions through continuous risk observations
Stop production and shipments if a quality or HSE risk is identified

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Personal Background
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (electrical and mechanical)or Engineering Technology
Must be legally able to work in the U.S. without requirement for any type of visa sponsorship./transfer both now and in the future
Job Technical skills
Proficient with the installation and support of PC hardware and software
Working knowledge of PLC’s, HMI systems, networking and data acquisition systems
Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Minitab, Access, Visio
Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
Job Soft skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills – written and verbal
Strong organizational skills
Reactivity – ability to work in a fast paced environment – results oriented
