Context

Besides the fuel systems, Clean Energy Systems is one of the main suppliers of depollution systems.  Research programs as well as development programs specific to new vehicles move forward to answer as quickly as possible the new requests of the market, in the core business of the Division (Fuel systems and Depollution), but also in new energy solutions.- hydrogen storage and fuel cells

The Research Center of Plastic Omnium located in Brussels is fully dedicated to innovations in those three lines of products.

 

Objective of the internship

In the 2030 time frame, vehicles will have multiple propulsion systems. A bright future lies in store for Plastic Omnium solutions and our Brussels research center as today we preparing to move to the next level: electric propulsion using hydrogen and fuel cells.

Be part of this challenging movement to the zero emission vehicle and contribute to the definition of power systems in the electrical traction architectures of light, mild and heavy duty fuel-cell vehicles.

 

Tasks and deliverables of the internship

  • Model the traction system architecture of electric vehicles powered by a fuel-cell systems
  • Simulate the traction system of various electric vehicles and various duties
  • Define the size of the fuel-cell system and of the battery
  • Characterize power electronics converters
  • Create comprehensive reports and perform comprehensive presentations

 

Background

Master in electrical or electro-mechanical engineering with knowledge of power electronics and electrical power systems

 

Know-how - prerequisites

  • Matlab/Simulink/Simscape
  • Electrical systems and Power electronics
  • Mechatronics/Electronics/Sensors/Actuators/System control/System optimization are a plus
  • Fluent in English, knowledge of French is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team spirit and working capability
  • Good analytical & synthesis skills
  • Curious with strong interest in clean mobility, energy savings & new technologies
  • Good written and oral communication skills using MS Office tools

 

Simulation means

Matlab/Simulink/Simscape with electrical and powertrain toolboxes

 

Duration and period

Period: 2019/2020

Duration: 4 to 6 months

Requirement: EU citizenship
