Job Summary<

Ensure compliance with all governmental regulations and ensure a safe and healthy work environment. The EHS Manager is responsible for the direction and coordination of the facility Environmental Health and Safety Programs to ensure that the customer’s requirements are met on a timely basis with a manufactured product. Work is performed in a fast paced, results oriented environment within tight timeframes. Unusual hours and travel may be required. Affiliation with local HSE Groups is essential to keep abreast of laws that affect EHS policies and practices. May assist HR department with workers compensation claims, limited duty and return to work case administration. This is a salaried exempt position.<


Reporting Relationship:  This position reports directly to Plant Director Manager. Have dotted line responsibilities to EHS Director.<

Essential Functions< <

  • Develops protocol and procedures for health and safety compliance.<
  • Designs, conducts, and reports on facility health and safety surveys of facilities; assesses health and safety conditions to determine if the staff or the general public may be exposed to unsafe or unhealthful conditions.<
  • Develops programs and investigates complaints related to safety issues such as walking/working surfaces and fall protection; ingress/egress; confined spaces and other issues arising in the occupational setting.<
  • Develops programs and investigates complaints related to environmental health issues such as noise, vibration, fumes, toxic chemicals, lighting, ventilation, asbestos, lead and related occupational issues.<
  • Develops Requests for Proposals and contracts for health and safety assessments and management services, manages and oversees contract performance.<
  • Prepares technical reports and recommends corrective measures to improve health and safety conditions.<
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of special sampling techniques and laboratory analysis procedures for the sampling and testing of unusual health and safety conditions.
  • Reviews chemical, equipment, and product specifications to determine potential exposure to physical or chemical stressors and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Evaluates personal protective equipment (PPE) used in branch facilities as to effectiveness and recommends changes in the use of PPE.

    Required qualifications, knowledge, skills and abilities< <

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or relative discipline<
  • Minimum 5 years safety and environmental experience<
  • Proficient in computer software<
  • Certification in First Aid / CPR required<
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations<
  • Experience within a union environment preferred<
  • Training in Ergonomics preferred<
  • Laser and X-Ray Safety Officer Certifications preferred.< <


    LOTO Knowledge:< <

  • Has a technical knowledge on: electricity, hydraulics and pneumatics, with the ability to recognize and manage hazardous energy sources machine by machine.<
  • Experienced on BMM, Finishing Centers and Utilities.<
  • Full understanding of the LOTO concepts, and its application:<
  • Method, devices, and instructions used to lockout / tag out machinery<
  • Choice of appropriate level of LOTO (when we have to apply complete LOTO, or partial LOTO or “door< <

                   locked” only)< <

  • Able to perform risk analysis before LOTO and work perform inside machines<
  • Ability to train and coach other technicians on LOTO and safe work practices<
  • Responsible to advise when standard work instructions are not covering a necessary specific activity<
  • Responsible to check the correct application of LOTO, in line with procedures<
  • Seek guidance from the LOTO Steering Committee for any concerns regarding LOTO< <
